During the Great Refusal on Strana Mechty, the Ghost Bears abandoned their Crusader beliefs and embraced the Warden Faction, leading them out of the Trial of Refusal being waged by the Inner Sphere. They won a minor victory against the ComGuards at the Battle of Tukayyid and bode their time since.
They joined the original Clan invasion in 3050 and seized some forty worlds from the Free Rasalhague Republic and Draconis Combine. Powerful Clansmen, the Ghost Bears are known for their conservative nature and their strong sense of family. Clan Diamond Shark changed its name back to Sea Fox in 3100.įor more details on this topic, see Clan Ghost Bear. A predominantly Warden clan, the Diamond Sharks are known for their liberal attitudes, toleration of freeborns, caste intermingling, and free-thinking ways that are unparalleled in the Clans. This Clan is mercantile in its dealings, an intermediary between many Clans and advancer of scientific and mercantile breakthroughs. Nyserta was then lost to the Ghost Bears, leading to a renewal of Warden sentiments in the Clan leadership. They were a reserve Clan during the invasion and only captured one Inner Sphere world, Nyserta, before being defeated on Tukayyid. This prompted the clan to alter their name to that of the predator, the Diamond Shark. Originally called Sea Fox after a marine mammal, the Sea Fox was wiped nearly to extinction by a vicious predator purposely introduced to the ecosystem by Clan Snow Raven to disgrace them. To summarise the history of the clans between their birth and the current state of the fiction three clans were Absorbed (Widowmaker, Mongoose, Burrock), two were Annihilated (Wolverine and Smoke Jaguar), one was Abjured (Nova Cat), another was split in two (Wolf), and two eventually merged with Inner Sphere nations (Ghost Bear and Snow Raven, respectively).įor more details on this topic, see Clan Diamond Shark.Ĭlan Diamond Shark is the only clan to ever change it's Kerensky-given name. It is prior to retaking the worlds that he decided to forge all the people into the clans, dividing the 800 warriors evenly amongst the twenty clans, each warrior becoming the progenitor of a bloodname. When ready, he returned with 800 of his best warriors and 600 civilian families and retook the wartorn Pentagon worlds. The clan planet know as Strana Mechty ("land of dreams" in Russian) is introduced to the fiction as Nicholas' base while building up a force able to subdue the pentagon worlds. Alexandr had compiled all his military knowledge in a book that Nicholas uses as a basis when designing the foundations of clan society. It is Nicholas that forms the actual clans themselves, deciding to make a society that doesn't suffer the problems inherent in the Inner Sphere. The second is that Alexandr dies from a massive stroke while fleeing the colonies in a second Exodus and his son Nicholas takes over command of the new refugees. One is that the old rivalries and divisions of the Inner Sphere begin to show in Aleksandr's new society such that the colonies become a smaller parallel to the Inner Sphere's 1st Succession War. Two plot turns start the colonies transformation to become the clans. This plot detail is important as it gives a precedent that will later be used by the clans for the inspiration of their trial based combat system.
To avoid the crushingly low morale made from choosing solders to transfer, he decided to setup a series of challenges and wargames between the soldiers, where the top performers were kept as soldiers and the rest were transferred. The cutdown of soldiers was large since there was almost no fear of attack at such a remote location. One point of fiction during this time is that there were too many soldiers amongst his refugees for the colonies to function, so he decided to transfer a faction of his soldiers to the positions that were needed. The travel to these planets is called 'The Exodus' by the clanners. He settled on these worlds with all the refugees in order to found a society like that of the old Star League. The fiction describes Aleksandr discovering five marginally habitable worlds, after years of travelling, called the Pentagon Worlds due to their near-pentametric relation to each other.
The background fiction of the clans starts with the build-up of the 1st Succession War with General Aleksandr Kerensky departing the Inner Sphere, with most of the Star League forces still loyal to him, in order to flee the destabilising Star League.
